How to Get from Bangsar South to KLIA / klia2 (and Back) by LRT and Train

If you’re renting or living in Bangsar South, one of the questions tenants ask most often is: “How do I get to the airport without a car?” The good news is that Bangsar South is one of the best-connected addresses in Kuala Lumpur for airport travel — you’re just one LRT stop away from KL Sentral, which is the direct gateway to both KLIA and klia2.

Here’s the full step-by-step guide, whether you’re heading out on a flight or picking someone up.

    The Short Answer

There is no single train that runs directly from Bangsar South to the airport. Instead, you do it in two easy legs:

    1. LRT (Kelana Jaya Line): Bangsar South (Kerinchi station) → KL Sentral — about 7 minutes
    2. KLIA Ekspres or KLIA Transit: KL Sentral → KLIA / klia2 — about 28–33 minutes

Total journey time is roughly 40–50 minutes door-to-departure-gate, plus a buffer for interchanging at KL Sentral. It’s fast, air-conditioned, and completely avoids highway traffic — a big advantage during peak hours or a KL thunderstorm.

Step 1: Bangsar South to KL Sentral (LRT Kelana Jaya Line)

Bangsar South’s own LRT station is called Kerinchi, on the Kelana Jaya Line. This is the same line that runs through KL Sentral, so there’s no need to change lines.

    • Board at Kerinchi LRT Station (a short walk or a quick Grab/e-hailing ride from most Bangsar South condos and offices)
    • Take the train in the direction of Gombak
    • Alight at KL Sentral — it’s just one stop away
    • Journey time: around 7 minutes
    • Fare: around RM1–2 (tap in and out with Touch ‘n Go or a contactless bank card)

Trains run frequently throughout the day, so there’s rarely more than a few minutes’ wait.

Step 2: KL Sentral to KLIA / klia2

Once you arrive at KL Sentral, follow the signs to the KLIA Ekspres / KLIA Transit platforms, which are inside the same station complex (a few minutes’ walk with clear signage).

You have two train options on the same track:

    KLIA Ekspres (non-stop, fastest)

    • Runs non-stop from KL Sentral straight to KLIA
    • Journey time: ~30 minutes to KLIA (Terminal 1), ~33 minutes to klia2
    • Departs every 20 minutes, all day, every day
    • Adult one-way fare: RM55 (a small discount if you book online in advance)

KLIA Transit (a few stops, same fare)

    • Same trains, same fare, but makes three stops along the way: Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya/Cyberjaya, and Salak Tinggi
    • Journey time: ~36–39 minutes
    • Useful if you’re travelling to/from one of those areas instead of the city centre
    • Adult one-way fare: also RM55

Both services accept Touch ‘n Go, contactless debit/credit cards, or tickets bought at the counter, kiosk, or the KLIA Ekspres app/website (online booking usually comes with a small discount).

Tip: After 11:00 pm, all trains stop at every station along the way, so journeys take a little longer late at night. The last train from KL Sentral departs at around 1:00 am.

Doing It in Reverse: KLIA / klia2 to Bangsar South

    The same route works backwards:

    1. From KLIA or klia2, board the KLIA Ekspres or KLIA Transit to KL Sentral (~30–39 minutes)
    2. At KL Sentral, transfer to the LRT Kelana Jaya Line towards Putra Heights
    3. Alight one stop later at Kerinchi (Bangsar South) (~7 minutes)

Total time: roughly 40–50 minutes, plus the walk from Kerinchi station to your final address in Bangsar South.

    Quick Cost & Time Summary

    Leg Mode Time Fare (one-way)
Bangsar South ↔ KL Sentral LRT (Kelana Jaya Line) ~7 min ~RM1–2
KL Sentral ↔ KLIA KLIA Ekspres ~30 min RM55
    KL Sentral ↔ klia2 KLIA Ekspres ~33 min RM55
KL Sentral ↔ KLIA/klia2 (via stops) KLIA Transit ~36–39 min RM55

Alternative: Skip the Transfer with a Direct Ride

If you’re travelling with heavy luggage, a group, or simply prefer door-to-door convenience, a Grab (e-hailing) or airport taxi from Bangsar South takes around 45–60 minutes depending on traffic, at a higher cost than the train but with no transfers involved. During peak hours, the train is usually the more reliable option since it isn’t affected by highway congestion.

Why This Matters If You’re Renting in Bangsar South

For tenants — especially expats, frequent flyers, and remote workers who travel often — being one LRT stop from KL Sentral and roughly 45 minutes from the airport is a genuine lifestyle advantage. It’s one of the reasons Bangsar South consistently ranks as a top choice for professionals who value connectivity as much as convenience.

  • 9 Bangsar South Condos for Rent in 2026: A Tenant’s Guide

Bangsar South has more than a dozen residential towers, and listings rarely tell you how they actually differ. This guide compares the nine condos tenants ask me about most: what each one is like, who it suits, and what rent to expect in 2026.

All nine sit inside or next to the Bangsar South township off the Federal Highway, between Mid Valley and University of Malaya. The biggest differences between them are distance to the LRT, unit size and how new the building is.

    How to choose

    • Want the shortest walk to the LRT? KL Gateway Residences, The Estate, Novum or South View.
    • Want a brand-new building? Laurel Residence, then South Link.
    • Need 3 or more bedrooms? The Goodwood Residence, The Park Residences or Novum’s larger units.
    • Lowest rent? Laurel Residence, South Link, Camellia and KL Gateway Residences start from about RM2,000 – 2,200 a month for smaller units.

For getting around, see the Bangsar South transportation guide.

What to check before you sign

    • Lift waiting time during the evening peak
    • Lobby and corridor cleanliness, which reflects how well the building is managed
    • Water pressure and air-conditioning, tested during the viewing
    • Which internet providers serve the building
    • A diplomatic clause in the tenancy agreement
    • Parking: how many bays come with the unit, and the cost of an extra one

As a tenant you pay no agent fee. WhatsApp me and I will arrange viewings across any of these buildings in one trip.

  • Getting Around Bangsar South — A Complete Transportation Guide

Updated October 2026. One of the most common questions I get from tenants and buyers is how easy it is to get around from Bangsar South. Here is a practical breakdown: the two LRT stations, how far each condo is from them, and what to expect from buses, Grab and driving.

    LRT — Kelana Jaya Line

Bangsar South is served by two stations on the Kelana Jaya Line: Kerinchi on the eastern side and Universiti on the western side. They are next to each other on the line. From Kerinchi station:

    • Universiti — 1 stop. The nearest station to Universiti Malaya.
    • Abdullah Hukum — 1 stop. Linked by covered walkway to KL Eco City and Mid Valley.
    • Bangsar — 2 stops.
    • KL Sentral — 3 stops. Interchange for KTM, MRT, Monorail and the airport trains.
    • KLCC — further along the same line, with no change of train.

For the airport, change at KL Sentral; the Bangsar South to KLIA guide has the step-by-step route.

Walking distance to the LRT, by condo

How useful the LRT is depends on which building you live in:

    Condo Nearest station Distance
Novum Kerinchi About 50 m, by pedestrian bridge
South View Kerinchi Covered bridge to the station
KL Gateway Residences Universiti About 240 m
KL Gateway Premium Residences Universiti About 240 m
The Estate Universiti About 300 m
South Link Universiti About 0.7 km
Laurel Residence Universiti About 900 m, plus a free shuttle
Camellia Serviced Suites — Shuttle bus to the LRT

If you plan to commute by train every day, the first five are the ones to shortlist.

    Bus services

RapidKL feeder buses run from the Kerinchi and Universiti LRT stations into the township and the surrounding neighbourhoods. The free Go KL City Bus does not come into Bangsar South. Most residents treat buses as a back-up rather than their main way to commute, especially outside peak hours.

    Grab and e-hailing

Grab is widely used in Bangsar South, and the offices and shops in the township mean there are usually drivers nearby. As a rough guide to fares outside peak hours:

    • To Mid Valley: RM 7–12
    • To KL Sentral: RM 8–14
    • To Bangsar Village: RM 10–16
    • To Petaling Jaya (PJ Old Town): RM 15–22
    • To KLCC: RM 18–28

Fares rise with demand and rain, so check the app for the price at the time you travel.

    Driving

Bangsar South connects to the Federal Highway, the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and the Kerinchi Link of the SPRINT Highway. Approximate driving times:

    • Mid Valley Megamall: 8–12 minutes
    • Petaling Jaya (Section 14 / SS2): 15–20 minutes
    • KLCC / city centre: 20–35 minutes, depending on traffic
    • Subang Jaya: 20–30 minutes via the Federal Highway
    • Damansara Uptown: 20–28 minutes

Parking in the commercial blocks fills up at peak hours. Residential towers have their own basement or podium parking; check how many bays come with the unit before you sign.

    Walking and cycling

Inside the township, covered walkways connect the main towers to the shops and offices. Walking out of the township towards Bangsar proper means crossing some busy junctions, and cycling is fine within the estate but not well supported for longer routes.

    Bottom line

Bangsar South works well for commuters who combine the LRT with Grab, and it is especially convenient if you work along the KL Sentral – Bangsar – Mid Valley corridor. It is manageable if you drive to PJ or the city. It can feel isolated if you rely only on buses at weekends.

  • Living in Bangsar South as a UM International Student

Updated October 2026. Universiti Malaya (UM) draws thousands of international students to Kuala Lumpur each year, and many of them choose Bangsar South — a township next to the campus that offers a very different living experience from student hostels or shared flats.

Here is a practical guide to what renting in Bangsar South looks like as an international student.

    Distance to UM

Bangsar South sits roughly 3–5 km from UM’s gates. By car or Grab that is about 8–15 minutes, depending on traffic. By train, Universiti LRT station on the Kelana Jaya Line is the nearest station to the campus, and it is one stop from Kerinchi station on the other side of the township.

The condos closest to Universiti station are KL Gateway Residences (about 240 m) and South Link (about 0.7 km). The transport guide lists the walking distance for every condo.

    What to budget

Whole units in Bangsar South start at about RM2,000 a month. From asking rents checked in September 2026:

The lowest figures are for the smallest units in each building. Sharing a two-bedroom unit with a roommate brings the cost per person down; the 9-condo tenant guide shows the rent range for each condo.

Utilities (electricity, water, internet) are paid separately, roughly RM150–300 a month for a small unit depending on how much you use the air-conditioning.

Deposits: 2 months security deposit + 0.5 month utility deposit + 1 month advance rental. Budget about 3.5 months’ rent upfront when you move in.

Why international students choose Bangsar South

    • Security: the condominiums have 24-hour security with access cards.
    • Facilities in the building: most towers have a pool and a gym, so you do not depend on what is nearby.
    • Shops close by: the township has its own supermarkets, cafés and restaurants, and Mid Valley is one LRT stop from Kerinchi (Abdullah Hukum station).
    • International community: many multinational companies have offices here, so you will not feel out of place.
    • English-friendly: building management, shops and restaurants generally operate in English.

Things to know before you sign

    • Most landlords ask for a copy of your passport and student visa. Your UM offer letter helps.
    • The usual tenancy is 12 months. Some landlords will consider a shorter lease for students on shorter programmes, sometimes at a higher rent.
    • Read the tenancy agreement before signing. Check the early-termination clause and the list of what is included in the unit.
    • The agent fee is paid by the landlord, not by you. If anyone asks you to pay an agent fee as a tenant, walk away.

    Getting help

If you are arriving in KL and need help finding a unit in Bangsar South, WhatsApp me at +601188881709. I will shortlist suitable options, arrange viewings and handle the paperwork, at no cost to you as a tenant.
